A few weeks ago, I was able to attend the Everybody Golfs Project Mobility event with the OxyHealth crew and I couldn’t have asked for a better turn out and experience. We were able to gift 2 men with their very own adaptive bicycles and when we received this thank you note from one of their fathers, I just had to share it with you.
I would like to thank everyone… Hal, Tammy, Shannon, and all of the wonderful people at project mobility who have made my son Matthew a very, very happy young man. Matt is our only child and he arrived on this earth in 1999. Things didn’t turn out as I personally had hoped because he was born on the autistic spectrum and has some other cognitive disorders which have made for a number of challenges for us. I personally stood firm on the name Matthew Michael in order to honor his namesake uncles, my younger brothers, both of whom succumbed to Adrenoleukodystrophy, Matt in 1975 at age 9 and Mike in 1990 at age 20. Never in my wildest dreams could I expect to have to deal with autism. Still, while our son is often challenging and very difficult he remains the single greatest thing in life that my wife Dawn and I have ever accomplished and we love him so very much.
This most generous act of seemingly random kindness comes at a time when my family could have really used something good in our lives and as I type the tears are running down my face; if I were saying these words in public I would be a blabbering idiot. I have been through so much adversity in my life that I don’t take too many things forgranted anymore, but this is really all about my boy and his happiness. When he heard his name called out to accept his fabulous new road machine he was up and out of his chair like a shot! We are so proud of him for understanding that he will have to wait a short time for his new luxury cruiser to arrive after explaining to him that it wouldn’t fit in our car. Patience is not a virtue with youngsters like Matt.
From the bottom of my heart I want to thank all of you selfless people who did this for us all. I have no words to express my heartfelt gratitude.
