I know I’ve been slacking on blogs recently and I wanted to shed some light on why…
Thank you everyone for your prayers and continued support for Grace and our family. I would like 2017 to end or at least have a do over from January 1st on for Grace. Grace is now at home and has a long road ahead of her. I really thought that I had been through the worst with her all those years ago, but I stand corrected as pertussis has by far been the worse thing Grace has ever gone through and having a narrow airway from birth it makes it even harder. So that should say a lot about this horrible infection. We are told that this coughing/choking attacks she has been having could possibly last for 3 months… or as whooping cough used to be called, “the 100 day cough.” We have 23 days under our – belt 77 to go!
If anyone can do this, it is Grace. I cant say enough to parents of special kiddos that make sure if your child has a cough that doesnt seem normal, insist they test for it. We were at doctors 3 times and the ER once before she was finally tested. Two weeks later and had she been tested from the start, it most likely would have never gotten this bad. Grace is strong and I believe this is not going to beat her, rather she will beat it.  It is really tough on her loved ones as well. I had a week of little to no sleep and I was afraid to stay alone with her. Thank God for my family – my parents especially.
The one thing I find interesting (and if you follow me you know I dont talk much about vaccines), is that by talking to several nurses who stood watch over Grace, it became clear that many kids, typical kids, who have had the vaccine, have still gotten pertussis. So please don’t take for granted that your child will be immune to this. If you get a letter home from your school take it seriously and watch your child closely as it usually starts out as a cold that lingers. Grace never had a cold she just jumped right into it with a cough.
I am going to continue to blog about this as it is a very frightening illness. Thank you again for your calls your emails and post. United we stand and it never ceases to amaze me how we all look out for each other. Your recommendations have been so helpful. Thank you Dr. Rossignol, Dr. Feingold and Dr. Yaffe. So blessed to have you in our lives.
Never give up hope.

Everything Happens For A Reason

Because sometimes we all need to be reminded. I know lately I feel as though nothing I do is right or has meaning and I have let myself believe that. I am looking forward to 2018, but make a promise to make the rest of 2017 matter…
